Curatorial interpretation
Garments, shirts, dresses and blouses, hang as flat purple, orange, pink and blue silhouettes over a black ground, punctuated by small yellow squares. The mood is playful, flat and rhythmic. Clothing and pattern are treated as a language of identity: surfaces that carry colour, rhythm and belonging. The work suggests how what we wear can hold personal and cultural memory. In the exhibition it appears at position 27 (ROOM VI), where its role is: pair right. As with all works here, the title is a curatorial working title, and details such as date, medium and dimensions await the artist's confirmation.
Look slowly
Imagine who might wear each garment. Then let them remain empty.
