Curatorial interpretation
A large copper-brown disc, textured with fine radiating strokes, holds a small pale circle at its centre; it sits on a field of black-and-white signs above bands of white and black. The mood is meditative, weighty and slow. Forms that recall monuments, discs, vessels and ornament are built patiently from small marks, giving the surface a devotional, almost ritual rhythm. The work suggests how cultural memory can survive as pattern and shape. In the exhibition it appears at position 13 (ROOM III), where its role is: pair left. As with all works here, the title is a curatorial working title, and details such as date, medium and dimensions await the artist's confirmation.
