Curatorial interpretation

A vertical form, part torso, part vessel, part garment, fills the canvas; a turquoise patterned band arcs across the top above a cream body of black and turquoise signs, all set against bright orange. The mood is ritual, bodily and vivid. Forms that recall monuments, discs, vessels and ornament are built patiently from small marks, giving the surface a devotional, almost ritual rhythm. The work suggests how cultural memory can survive as pattern and shape. In the exhibition it appears at position 15 (ROOM III), where its role is: medium solo. As with all works here, the title is a curatorial working title, and details such as date, medium and dimensions await the artist's confirmation.
